01 / Read-only checks

Find exceptions before they become repeat tickets

These use cases come from recurring support requests. Compare Toast data with the client’s approved expectations to give technicians a focused list of exceptions to investigate.

Check promotional prices across locations

The promotion ended, but some locations still have the promotional price.

Compare published menu prices with the approved price schedule and flag exceptions for the technician. Account for location, size and time-based pricing.

Checks published data; does not update prices or prove what a terminal is charging.

Find employee setup gaps before a shift

A new or returning employee is missing from Toast when they need to clock in.

Compare Toast employees and existing job assignments with an authorized HR roster. Identify missing or archived records and location mismatches.

Requires an expected roster; cannot read existing POS passcodes or verify every permission.

Catch sales category and tax setting discrepancies

A menu rollout leaves items without the expected sales category.

Compare published item configuration with the client’s approved baseline. Give support and finance a location-by-location exception list.

Flags differences; does not decide tax policy, change settings or repair historical reports.

Review prep stations and menu visibility

An item is missing from a menu or has an unexpected prep-station assignment.

Check published menu items, visibility and prep-station assignments against the rollout plan so the technician can focus the investigation.

Configuration evidence does not prove physical printing or the complete QR ordering experience.

02 / Changes with custom API access

Resolve approved employee setup requests

Employee setup, job assignments and POS passcode resets use Toast’s employee write operations. These workflows require custom or partner API access with the correct permissions and client approval.

Create or reactivate an employee

Use an approved employee record to address a confirmed sync exception, coordinating with the existing HR or payroll integration.

Correct job assignments and employee IDs

Restore an existing job assignment or correct an external employee ID after reviewing the affected locations and the source record.

Reset a POS passcode

Handle an authorized POS code-change request after identity checks and approval. This is separate from a Toast Web password reset.

Example workflow

“The promotion ended. Why is the old price still there?”

  1. Collect the context. Identify the client, locations, items and approved promotion end time from the support request.
  2. Check the published menu. Compare the relevant Toast prices with the approved schedule, accounting for pricing rules.
  3. Hand over the exceptions. Give the technician the mismatched items and locations. An authorized operator makes any price corrections in Toast.

The opportunity for an MSP is to bring these findings into the same service desk as the client’s other tickets. NetZen combines that workflow with RMM and automation. See our broader approach to IT support for hospitality MSPs.

Toast automation: access, scope and next steps

Start with a recurring ticket that takes your technicians time across multiple locations: promotional price checks, missing employees, job assignments or POS passcode requests. Tell us what happens today, which systems are involved and what a successful outcome looks like.

It can support comparisons and exception reports using permitted menu, configuration and employee data. Each check also needs an approved source of truth, such as a price schedule or HR roster. Read-only access cannot change Toast data.

Creating or reactivating employees, changing existing job assignments or external employee IDs, and resetting POS passcodes require custom or partner access with the appropriate employee-write scope. Toast must grant access; a standard read-only credential is not sufficient. Each workflow needs approval rules and validation with the client.

These use cases focus on configuration checks and employee workflows. The reviewed menu API reads published menus; custom access does not provide a general menu editor. A prep-station check does not reroute printers, and the reviewed device API has no restart operation. Toast’s native tools and the appropriate vendor or on-site support remain part of the workflow.

NetZen combines an AI service desk, RMM and automation. Discuss how Toast findings should fit into your client’s support workflow, alongside technician investigation and handoff. Adopting NetZen means moving your service desk to NetZen while retaining compatible surrounding tools.
